At SEAS, service is integrated into the curriculum with each grade participating in a service project. In addition, our 7th and 8th graders complete a service hour requirement of 10 hours each quarter.
Service is defined at SEAS as “doing something for someone in need for which you receive no payment.”
Sometimes service opportunities are posted at school when someone from our community presents a need for student workers. However, the students are encouraged to reach out to people in their own family and neighborhood to offer service. Examples include helping grandparents or elderly neighbors do yard work or offering to babysit for a young family without payment. The students may also receive service hours for altar serving or singing in the choir at Mass on the weekends.
At the end of the quarter the students hand in a log of their service and receive a grade in Religion class.
