Our roots in the Hastings community go all the way back to 1856! Guardian Angels, St. Boniface, Hastings Parochial, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton schools are all connected and share a rich history.
There were two Catholic parishes in Hastings from the late 1800s until 1987.
Guardian Angels Catholic School and Parish was started by Irish immigrants on October 2nd, 1856, on the feast of Guardian Angels.
St. Boniface Catholic School and Parish was started by German immigrants in 1870.
In 1970, Guardian Angels School and St. Boniface School merged into one school called Hastings Parochial.
On July 1st, 1987 the two parishes merged into one parish named after the newest canonized American saint: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Fr. Mertz, longtime pastor of Guardian Angels, was instrumental in presenting evidence for Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton's sainthood and was present at her canonization in 1975.
The parishes worshipped in the existing churches until our present Church was built in 1994
For over 165 years, there has been a strong Catholic presence in Hastings and has educated generations.
